Arrival in Uganda

We arrived in Kampala yesterday without any problems after spending a night in Nairobi. We were sad to have to say goodby to friends we had made on the ABO (orientation) in Kenya although one is still with us. We are staying in the AIM Guesthouse 'Matoke Inn' where both the food and accommodation are excellent. We will be here for at least a week starting our induction to Uganda and making preparations for our house and teaching in Arua. Lyn Cooke (from our church in Brentwood) works at the office here and is helping us to get used to the different ways of doing things. We met with Cathy (from Arua) to discuss some further details about the school and life in Arua and this was very useful - but we still have much to learn! The folk here have made us feel very welcome and are doing all they can to help us through these initial stages.

Arrival in Kenya

Arrived safely in Kenya and spent two days in Nairobi before a two hour bumpy ride to Scott Theological College in Machakos (see http://www.scott.ac.ke/ for pictures etc). We will spend three weeks here with 33 other people accustoming ourselves to the African worldview and customs.
Settling in well. It's winter here so the temperature is about 19C and we are wearing fleeces!!
Lots of fascinating people here from America, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Switzerland and some others.
Food ok although cornflakes garnished with tomato was a novelty!
Keeping well and recovering from weeks of packing and saying goodbye.
